Chris Sumrall
Chris Sumrall concluded a distinguished 30-year coaching career in March 2025, retiring after three impactful seasons as head coach of the Tascosa High School Lady Rebels basketball team in Amarillo, Texas. During his tenure at Tascosa from 2022 to 2025, Sumrall revitalized the program by achieving an impressive 78-18 overall record and leading the team to three consecutive deep playoff runs, including a regional finals appearance in his final season.
Before his time at Tascosa, Sumrall accumulated over 600 career wins at various Texas high schools, including Wellington, Garden City, Coahoma, Clyde, Electra, and Groom. Notably, he led Garden City to the UIL Class 1A state tournament in 2015 and took Wellington to three regional finals and a UIL Class 2A state cross country championship in 2021.
Sumrall's coaching philosophy focused on player development and fostering strong relationships. Reflecting on his career, he stated that witnessing players' growth and those "aha" moments were among his most cherished experiences. His legacy is defined by a commitment to excellence, mentorship, and a significant impact on the athletes and communities he served throughout the Texas Panhandle.
